Arrange your room.
Measure the inside width and depth, then each piece of furniture. Use decimal feet: 10 ft 6 in = 10.5 ft. Save a layout file to keep your work, and open that file here whenever you want to continue.
Work from the room you actually have.
- Enter the room size. Use the inside faces of the walls. This planner supports rectangular rooms from 6 to 80 feet in each direction.
- Mark fixed features. Add doors, their full swing areas, windows, sinks, and obstacles. Place opening markers against the appropriate wall.
- Measure and place furniture. Add an item, enter its actual dimensions, then drag it or use the position fields and arrow buttons. Each arrow moves it three inches.
- Review daily routines. Allow space for chairs in use, doors opening, adults helping children, and movement between activities. Compare another arrangement before moving the real furniture.
- Keep your layouts. Give each arrangement a name, such as “Living room A,” and choose Save layout file. Use Open saved layout to continue on this or another device. Print a separate copy for your room walkthrough. Saving is not automatic.
The sample sizes and route widths are starting points. Overlap alerts compare drawn footprints; they do not verify sightlines, exits, licensed capacity, building requirements, or assessment scores. A clear alert area does not mean a room is safe or compliant.
Recheck the furnished room from your actual caregiving positions during play, meals, diapering, rest, and transitions. Read Head Start’s active-supervision guidance.
